*Author's note this book does NOT contain any information on The Taken King expansion or the House of Wolves DLC. I'm working on a Taken King strategy guide and hope to have it out by the end of November (I originally planned to have it out in October but it hasn't worked out). This guide only contains information on the base game and the Dark Below DLC.

it is, indeed, OK. why not better ? nearly every detail is wrong. Destiny has changed so much in such a short time that it is not surprising an introductory book would soon be out of date. yet the book maintains its value : as the details may have changed, the structure is still applicable. this book still holds value, as each modified detail can be researched quickly and the updated details will make sense within the overarching structure of the game. example - Crucible marks are gone, but the Vanguard Marks are still there, and the logic behind them is the same. the alien races and strategies for upgrading have changed little, for more examplescan all this information be found on the internet ? sure, if you'd rather search than play, and if you know what to search for in the first place. even detailed instructions for performing open heart surgery can be found, but that hardly means you can expect to quickly learn everything you need to know by searching the 'net
for a couple of bucks you can quickly get a resource you'll turn to time and again as you familiarize yourself with Destiny

Destiny Decoded The Beginner Guide to the World Most Addictive and Confusing Shooter edition by Ian Frost Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
I wish I had this when I first started playing
Wish I would have had this when I first started destiny. Would have saved me hours and leveled quicker. Now to go undo my mistakes and level up.
At the time of writing this fever I have spent six hours playing the game. I don't know how many more hours I would have needed to spend to learn what I have from reading this book. Highly recommended for the Destiny newbie and still worth while for the veterans. Thank you, Ian Frost!
I previously purchased the Brady Games Strategy Guide for Destiny and found it of limited use. Certainly a lot of data and details, but Ian Frost's "Destiny Decoded" was so much more helpful for me.
I have found much of the leveling in Destiny to be confusing and Ian's explanations of the randomness of the game's loot and rewards set my mind at ease. He also has solid suggestions as to how to level up more efficiently and enjoy the game.
I highly recommend the modest expenditure to buy this guide.
This is a good for a beginner/novice playing Destiny. I wish I'd have read it sooner as it would have helped me level up faster and more efficiently. I do wish the author would revise it with the latest information as Bungie is constantly tweaking the game. But, I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is new to the Destiny world. The author has also written another book about Bounties in Destiny which is very useful in understanding how to complete them fast and effectively. I would recommend buying it as well since both are really inexpensive and worth the couple of dollars(total) just to save yourself time if you are a novice to MMO and Destiny like myself.
Bought this for my husband for his tablet. He is 71 years young and plays Destiny on his own, but purchased the Xbox and game so he could play it with our three grandsons online, they have a ball and it lessens the miles between us.
In fact my husband is now reading it for the second time and taking notes so he can keep up with the kids. LOL He has gotten so much from this book and constantly talks about what he's learned about the game. Now he is waiting with baited breath for Frost's next book on the Destiny add on disc, The Taken King, which should be released any day now.
My only crit is that I wish it had been longer. Outside of that, this is a superb primer for what has turned out to be a very confusing game experience (and, IMHO, unnecessarily so - thanks a lot, Bungie). Easily worth 4 or 5 times the cost in terms of the time saved hunting for all of this info scattered all over creation - some of which one wouldn't even think to ask.
If you're considering a purchase of Destiny, or even (especially?) if you've put in 15-20 hours, as I now have, and are wondering how much of your life you're willing to commit to what turns out to be more of a hobby than a simple video game, I think this book will help with that assessment. It's a super-quick read, funny, insightful and has good tips in addition to explaining all the stuff Bungie apparently didn't care to document anywhere for their paying customers.
Kudos, Ian - I look forward to your next installment.
